Somewhere in North-central Nigeria a woman was delivered of a strange looking baby.
The woman who came in with labor pains had some difficulty in the labor after the membrane was ruptured. With the fetus presenting with feet the obstetrician manage to deliver the baby which turned out to be a monkey in human body.
While the cause of this strange occurrence is not immediately known many have attributed it to some mystical power.
The strange baby died few minutes after birth weighing 4kg. The woman is in the postnatal word making a good recovery.
The case was unbooked so there was no ultrasound record of the baby.
Many doctors and sonographers have argued this to be anencephaly given reasons of cranial displasia and all other sonographic expectation and features, but this seems to be a completely formed cranial bone with and awkwardly extended ears. below is a picture of an anencephaly I personally followed up from second trimester till birth.
Though there is similarities in the both cases the only difference is the exposed brain tissue in this case. It is however noteworthy that anencephaly is most likely in female fetus, the reason for this is still being understood.
